Dealing With Insurance Adjusters
Nothing in the law obligates you to speak to any insurance adjuster. But your contract with your own insurance company almost certainly obligates you to speak with them if you’re going to make a claim against them or if the other driver is going to make a claim against you. If the accident appears to be your fault, you’ll definitely want to speak to your own insurance company, because (1) that’s the only way you’ll get your car fixed or replaced, and (2) they need you to cooperate with them if they’re going to pay the claim of the other driver.
If the accident appears to be the other driver’s fault, and you are injured, you should consult an attorney before doing anything but getting medical treatment. You shouldn’t speak with the other driver’s insurance company about anything except the location and condition of your vehicle.
